Empowering Young Athletes To Protect Against Sun Damage

Pursue Your passion while protecting your skin

Our Goals

01.

Educational Outreach

We provide targeted education to young athletes ensuring they have the tools to best protect themselves from the cumulative effects of the sun. We designed a curriculum using engaging data, visuals, and participation.

02.

Engagement with Coaches

Research has shown that coaches play a large role in influencing the habits of young athletes. We aim to partner with coaches and athletic departments to further the impact we can have on our athletes.

03.

Busting myths

Our continued medical training helps us get the most accurate and helpful information out to our communities. For example, it is important to wear sunscreen even if you don’t directly see the sun!

Our Mission

Skin Cancer is the most common type of cancer in the US, affecting 1 in 5 individuals by the age of 70. In fact, even one blistering sunburn from the ages of 15-20 can increase the chance of melanoma by two-fold. Outdoor athletes have significant exposure to the sun in their youth and are at an increased risk of skin cancer with recent studies showing insufficient sunscreen use among student athletes. Despite this, intervention and education programs suggest that sun protective behaviors among athletes improve with encouragement from coaches and staff. Our mission is to spread awareness of skin cancer among athletes and encourage sun safe behaviors in childhood, adolescence and young adulthood.
