Who We Are and What We Do

Learn About Our Journey

Welcome! We are two fourth year medical students passionate about Dermatology who are also former NCAA collegiate athletes. We started SunSports Protection after noticing our own teammates receive skin cancer diagnoses at young ages. We leverage our expertise in outdoor sports and skin health to educate young athletes, coaches, and athletic administrations about the long-term effects of UV sun exposure. We aim to provide guidance and practical tools to protect their skin, ensuring they can continue to enjoy their passion safely.

Thank you for being here.

Born and raised in Houston, I grew up as a club swimmer at Dads Club and later continued my athletic journey at Southern Methodist University’s Division I Swimming Program. Throughout my swimming career, I trained outdoors extensively, often neglecting sun protection not appreciating the importance to my health. A pivotal moment in medical school changed my perspective when I met a young woman diagnosed with skin cancer who, like me, had spent years training in the sun as a swimmer. Her story highlighted the significant cancer risks many athletes face, inspiring me to co-found Sun Sports—a Houston-based outreach program dedicated to educating athletes about sun safety. Through this initiative, I aim to empower athletes with the knowledge and tools they need to protect themselves from the harmful effects of UV exposure.
Growing up traveling across the nation for United States Tennis Association (USTA) tournaments, I was no stranger to the outdoors and the sun. Then, I was recruited to play college tennis at Washington University in St. Louis Top 10 Division 3 program. As senior captain, I started an initiative for the school’s athletic administration to provide sunscreen for outdoor athlete’s practices and games. I understand how difficult it is to protect ourselves against the sun, and as athletes, we are at higher risk. I am passionate about preventing the effects of aging, skin cancer, and managing other common skin conditions in our young athletic community.
